About Trip

The Gosaikunda Lake Trekking is a pilgrimage trek for Hindus to the Gosaikunda Lake, the sacred site for the worship of Shiva. Glacial lakes, snow peaks, oak and rhododendron forests, enchanting waterfalls, ethnic and traditional settlements, and above all, the legends of Gosaikunda itself, makes the trek an outstanding experience.

We drive to Dunche, a beautiful village with amazing mountain scenery where the trek starts. Ascending on to ThuloSybru the next day and then higher on to Chandanbari the next, the increased elevation makes way for a clearer mountain vistas. The next day, we move on to Gosainkunda(4,380m), the abrupt elevation may be strenuous, yet offers amazing views of Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang and the like. We take a rest here and for another day whilst enjoying the landscape and observing the village life of the highland dwellers. The downhill from Gosainkunda to Dunche takes about seven hours yet, the decrease in altitude makes the journey easier. From Dunche, we take a drive back to Kathmandu.

Excellent guidance on the LangTang and Gosainkunda

    Rating:

My girlfriend and I got to Nepal with the idea of doing the Annapurna Circuit without a guide. We arrived at the hotel and having chatted with Dipak, the guy who runs this company, we decided to go for the Lang Tang and Gosaindkunda treks instead.  Ramesh was assigned to us and he came to meet us and prepare with 6 hours notice. This was on the 2nd and 3rd week of December and he had literally just returned from the Lang Tang trek with another group (I note that the person from that group gave him a great review too; see below). We opted to use him only as a guide and we went without the food and board option. This meant that we would decide where we wanted to stay each evening and it gave us more flexibility.  Ramesh was familiar with the trek and with his usual hotels but the only issue was that he wasn't aware of other options which he hadn't personally tried. At first, he was a little uneasy but he soon opened up and got used to us. My only suggestion is to improve the awareness of the options along the trek. Most of his suggestions were good and we have no complaint though.  Ramesh's timing estimation is excellent and he would adjust the distances and time estimation according to our ability to acclimatise and to handle different types of terrains. He was adaptable. I mentioned on one day that I wasn't happy with trekking so close to roads. He proceeded to speak with some locals and learnt that there was an alternative pathway which didn't go near the roads. We tried it and liked it.  He is fun, easy going, and fast. He was especially helpful. When I was having a stomach ache, he offered to swap bags with me. As we didn't go for a full board option, we had our own little camping gas stove to boil water and to have hot water bottles filled before we slept. He was always more than willing to just help me with this small chore. We enjoyed our trek with him and would be happy to do another trek with him in the future.
