Karnali River Rafting is a highly technical raft through the Karnali River, offering vast and demanding rapids accompanied by an incredible landscape and rural cultural villages. The bus ride from Kathmandu to Kalyandada via Birendranagartakes around 22 hours, which the time can break down to a flight to Birendranagar from where Kalyandada is a two-hour drive.

We take a three-hour trek to Kareleghat, the put-in point for rafting on the Karnali River. Porters transfer all the rafting equipment and other necessities for the river trip without haste. There is an orientation meeting early in the evening before the trip, where you ask any questions concerning the journey and meet your fellow rafters and your raft guide and team. The raft is a 180km river action that takes six to seven days. Bus transportation is at Chisapani, the take-out point of Karnali river rafting, to either Pokhara (10 hours) or Kathmandu (16 hours).

Description

The trek along the lowlands of Karnali, combined with some of the most beautiful canyons found in Nepal, makes Karnalirafting/kayaking a memorable river trip available in this country and is a favorite river trip of guides and rafters as well. The route passes through remote villages and a wide variety of fauna and flora, including dense forests.

The rapids encountered in Karnali River are demanding and huge after monsoons, though relatively straightforward. The course of the river passes through narrow canyons where flow speed increases with the frequencies of the rapids. Low water rafting demands more technicality of the rafter and is equally exciting.

Karnali River Rafting is an ideal trip for a unique experience of Nepal: stunning scenery and excellent river action along the long rivers. The location of taking out points for those wishing to visit Bardia National Park is an added advantage. Karnali River is also considered one of the best in Nepal for fishing.
