Mundhum Trail trek is the newly opened trekking trail in the eastern region of Nepal. This isolated path in eastern Nepal lures travelers with its ethereal natural beauty, rich biodiversity, and the Kirati Rai Civilization. The astonishing view of the landscape of the Himalayas, the low mountain ranges, and the Terai region adds more pleasure and adventure on your trip. The cultural Mundhum Trek leads you up to the elevation of 4200m from sea level to the viewpoint on the Silchung summit. The Mundhum trek is regarded as the important for Kirati Pilgrim. However, it is equally respectable for everyone who loves nature and culture. 

 

 The trail got its name ‘Mundhum’ from the sacred writing of the Kirati adherents. Mundhum is the name of the oral Scripture of the indigenous Kirati people. This holy book guides the social and cultural life of the Kirati people. The Mundhum trekking trail takes you to the settlements in which the ethnic Kirati have lived for ages. Trekking through this Kirat Rai cultural trail you will get to experience their unique culture and lifestyle. The trail opened to the trekkers only since 2018.

Mundhum trek is an easy ridge-walk, that passes through several ridges of Temke, Chakhewa, Dhotre, Deurali, Maiyung, Satdobate, Rawadhap, and Salpa Bhanjyang and Silchung Hill. Since the past time Temke, Mehrung, Maiyung, Salpa Pokhari were the pilgrimage pathways to reach the holy Silchung hill. This newly launched trek mainly leads the trekkers to Khotang, Solukhumbu, Sankhuwasabha, and Bhojpur district of Eastern Nepal. This trek truly reflects the cultural life of ethnic Kirati’s, Rai’s, and Limbu’s living in the eastern part of Nepal. Best season for Mundhum Trail Trekking

Mundhum trail trekking is possible throughout the year. However, it is not recommended to trek this region during the monsoon as the excessive rain makes the trail slippery and risky for trekking.

If you love to walk through the trail embellished with blooming flowers then the Spring season is highly recommended for you. During this season the weather remains hot in the day time.

Autumn is the another best time for Mundum Trekking Trail. Autumn falls between September to November in Nepal. During this season the temperature is moderate and stable. There is also a chance of little snowfall in these months which makes trekking to this reason more exciting.

 

Mundhum Trail Trekking Difficulty

Mundhum Trail Trek is normally rated as a moderate trek. Normal Physical fitness is enough to accomplish this trek. You should have the endurance to walk for 6-8 hours per day. The maximum elevation to be reached during this trek is 4200m above the sea level. As a result, there is no risk of getting altitude sickness.

Detail Itinerary

  • Day 01Arrival in Kathmandu and Transfer to HotelOn your arrival at Tribhuvan airport, Mountain Rock Treks and Expedition trail member will welcome you and transfer you to our hotel in the tourist hub of Thamel.
  • Day 02Drive from Kathmandu to DiktelAround 9 hours of drive from Kathmandu we will reach to Diktel Bazar from Kathmandu. Diktel is one of the trade centers of eastern Nepal. The local market of Diktel is highly influenced by the tribe of Rai and Kirat.
  • Day 03Diktel to Chakewa (2300m)After having the early breakfast we will explore around the Diktel Bazar and then head towards Chakewa village. On this day we will cross the beautiful village of Dorap Chiuri Danda and Dobela.

    If you want to explore Tamke Hill then on day 3 we take a drive from Diktel to Chakewa and then hike to Tamke Hill. From Tamke hill you can enjoy the fascinating view of Mountain Range. We will stay overnight in Chakewa.
  • Day 04Trek from Chakewa to Dhotre (2752m)Crossing Maluwa, Dalsinga pass with Ridge of Merung Danda, today we will trek from Chakewa to Dhotre and stay overnight here.
  • Day 05Trekking from Dhotre to Maiyung (3122m)The trail from Dhotre to Maiyung is short and easy. You will get to see outstanding views on the trail. On this day we will cross Chhimalung pass, alluring mani walls of Phokte, Chautara, Mattim Danda.
  • Day 06Trek from Maiyung to Rawadhap (3426m)Today we will get closer to the local tribe of Mundhum Trek. Leaving behind the ethnic settlements like Satdobato, Hyakule, and Laure Bine we will stay overnight at the camp of Rawadhap. The agricultural fields, hardworking people, and their unique Kirati tradition and culture will add more excitement to our Mundhum Trail Trek.
  • Day 07Rawadhap to Salpa Bhanjyang (3348m)Trekking from Rawadhap fo Salpa Bhanjyang we will observe the exotic culture tradition and lifestyle of Kirati as well as Rai people. Crossing the Mani wall of Nikasa, Mani of Handi Lake, and Mani of Salpa pass we will stay overnight at Salpa Pokhari. Salpa is a popular religious place and many pilgrims visit this destination to pray for a better livelihood.
  • Day 08Explore around Silchung (4200m)Today we will hike up early morning towards the viewpoint of Silchung Peak. This rewarding hike will provide the awe-inspiring views of the Himalayas, deep valleys, enthralling nature, and the snow-clad Himalayas. Exploring around the viewpoint we will appreciate the serene atmosphere and breeze air. After that, we will return back to Salpa Bhanjyang and stay whole night there.
  • Day 09Trekking from Salpa Bhanjyang to Hyakule(2972m)On this day we will retrace our route and stay overnight at Hyakule.
  • Day 10Trek from Hyakule to Hanspokhari (2962m)We will follow the same trail to reach Hanspokhari.
  • Day 11The trek from Hanspokhari to BhojpurThe low altitude and the relatively downhill trail will make the trek easy. We will stay overnight at Bhojpur. From Bhojpur you can buy Khukuri as a souvenir. Khukuri is one of the best souvenirs for shopping in Nepal.
  • Day 12Drive back to Kathmandu After the early breakfast, we will return back to Kathmandu and spend the overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.
  • Day 13International Departure. Our team will transfer you to the airport.
