I decided to fly to Nepal to trek the Himalayas without much prior research, I stayed at Hotel Florid after seeing other reviews advising that the manager Dipak was knowledgeable about the mountains and hiking options etc. This turned out to be true and I booked a 2 week Langtang Gosaikunda Lauribina Pass Trek on his recommendation. I had a few days before it started so also booked a city tour of KTM temples and day trek to Jamacho. All my excursions were great fun and I really liked all the guides provided. My guide Yam on Lang tang was very experienced, looked after me and made me feel safe as a solo female traveller. On my return to the hotel I even booked a 4th trip with the company to Chitwan which again was a lot of fun and well organized.
I would highly recommend this company! Our guide, Ramesh was attentive and helpful. Went beyond his duties a few times and was cheerful all the time which really helped bring up the mood on an especially arduous day.
The trek was gorgeous and thank you Dipak (the boss of Mountain Rocks!) for recommending us this trek and introducing Ramesh to us.
Hope to be back in Nepal soon for another hike with this company and Ramesh!
I spent very memorable days in the Everest region in Nepal. I used to dream to see this highest peak of the world and now I arrested it in my camera. My guide arranged everything and helped me a lot. He did not let me feel tired and boring. I have read about the Manaslu region and willing to go there with this company again. I like to make a strong recommendation.
We stayed at Deepak’s hotel, ‘Hotel Florid’ in Kathmandu. We booked a porter-come-guide at the hotel. Our guide/porter ‘Rabin’ was extremely helpful and nothing was ever a problem for him. We’d recommend you request him for your trek. Whatever we wanted, he made happen. We know he was exceptionally good because after speaking to other westerners, we found out serval of them had small issues and problems with their guides and porters.
We did EBC and then planned on the 3 passes and Gokyo to see the lakes. We enjoyed Gokyo the most and if we had to choose, would do that over EBC.
Deepak was also extremely helpful when ever we had a problem. There was constant and clear communication via a cell phone that our guide carried. Any problems were fixed right away. We weren’t left on our own in sticky situations and when I got altitude sickness we got the proper advise and management from Deepak. We felt taken care of and guided every set of the way, which meant we had a smooth and enjoyable trek.
Book ‘Rabin’ as your guide and stay at ‘Hotel Florid’ in Kathmandu. Eat at ‘The third eye’ in Kathmandu for great Indian food and book a trip through mountain rock treks.
My girlfriend and I got to Nepal with the idea of doing the Annapurna Circuit without a guide. We arrived at the hotel and having chatted with Dipak, the guy who runs this company, we decided to go for the Lang Tang and Gosaindkunda treks instead.
Ramesh was assigned to us and he came to meet us and prepare with 6 hours notice. This was on the 2nd and 3rd week of December and he had literally just returned from the Lang Tang trek with another group (I note that the person from that group gave him a great review too; see below).
We opted to use him only as a guide and we went without the food and board option. This meant that we would decide where we wanted to stay each evening and it gave us more flexibility.
Ramesh was familiar with the trek and with his usual hotels but the only issue was that he wasn't aware of other options which he hadn't personally tried. At first, he was a little uneasy but he soon opened up and got used to us. My only suggestion is to improve the awareness of the options along the trek. Most of his suggestions were good and we have no complaint though.
Ramesh's timing estimation is excellent and he would adjust the distances and time estimation according to our ability to acclimatise and to handle different types of terrains. He was adaptable. I mentioned on one day that I wasn't happy with trekking so close to roads. He proceeded to speak with some locals and learnt that there was an alternative pathway which didn't go near the roads. We tried it and liked it.
He is fun, easy going, and fast. He was especially helpful. When I was having a stomach ache, he offered to swap bags with me. As we didn't go for a full board option, we had our own little camping gas stove to boil water and to have hot water bottles filled before we slept. He was always more than willing to just help me with this small chore. We enjoyed our trek with him and would be happy to do another trek with him in the future.
